  • You should wear the MNF along with elastics  part-time; 12 hours every evening/night-time

When should I remove the MNF?

  • For 12 hours during the day
  • You should remove the MNF to eat or drink anything or than water
  • For contact sports – to insert a sports mouth-guard, or for other sports such as swimming or mountain biking, please ensure you put the appliance into a box to keep it safe while it is out
  • To clean the appliance – You should take the appliance out when your are brushing your teeth, morning and night – use cool soapy water/ toothpaste to clean the appliance, please avoid using hot water to clean as it will distort the appliance and it will no longer fit

Tooth brushing advice

  • You should clean your teeth more often with fixed braces on; this includes morning, night and every-time you have something to eat
  • Brush all around your teeth, along the gum-line, above, below and in between each bracket
  • We recommend using a soft headed tooth brush in circular motions and inter-dental brushes with fluoride toothpaste
  • After eating, brush your teeth and refit the MNF immediately

How to wear the elastics?

  • Please follow the instructions for elastic wear provided by your orthodontist on where to place the elastics
  • Change the elastics every day or if they break
  • If you run out of elastics or lose the bag please come into reception to get more
  • Please remember: the only way this appliance works is if you wear the elastics as instructed

What should I do if I lose or break my MNF?

  • Contact the practice immediately if it is lost or broken in 02887784827 for advice
  • Use a box to keep it safe when out of the mouth
  • Avoid placing into a tissue as this is big reason they are lost or thrown into the bin.
